Grange Ornamental Stone
Robbie and Stuart Dodd

Grange Quarry, in Tundergarth near Lockerbie, first appears as a working quarry on regional maps of 1862. The stone makes excellent engineering aggregates, suitable for roadwork and at the time of the second world war was used to repair road damage caused by tanks.

The geology of the quarry is complex. Some of the older layers contain fossils 430 million years old. The quarry has a fossilized raised seabed, complete with deep water sand ripples.

Grange quarry is a family-run concern. We are greatly endebted to Robbie and Stuart Dodd who have donated all the stone for the garden as a contribution to supporting the charity POD.
