Jekka McVicar
Herb Grower
Born in Bristol in the 1950's, Jekka has had an interest in edible plants since childhood. She started her own organic herb farm in 1983, moving to the present site at Alveston near Bristol in 1985. She grows the largest range of medicinal and culinary herbs in the UK.
Jekka received her first RHS Gold Medal at The Hampton Court Flower Show in 1993. She has maintained this standard every year since then, winning 11 Gold Medals in succession at this show as well as eight Gold Medals at The Chelsea Flower Show.
Jekka is a regular broadcaster on radio and television on gardening and cookery programs. She has written four books, all of which are still in print. Her latest book, New Book of Herbs, published by Dorling Kindersley, has been sold all over the world.
Jekka and Marney first met at Chelsea in 1993 and have been friends ever since. Recognised as the country's leading herb-grower, Jekka was the obvious choice to produce the herbs and will be growing over a hundred species for 'The 4head Garden'.
