Marney Hall
Designer
Born in St Helens, Lancashire in 1949, Marney Hall has been passionate about wild flowers from childhood. Marney started her career as a government ecologist and for 20 years worked in nature conservation.
She set up her own company in 1988 growing a wide range of wild flowers for the retail market. In the Independent on Sunday, Michael Leapman said: 'That wild flowers are now widely available in garden centres is chiefly down to the endeavours of one woman'.
Marney supplied her first plants to The Chelsea Flower Show in 1989 and won her first RHS medal for design at The Hampton Court Flower Show in 1996. Her company was awarded the Tudor Rose for Best in Show. In 1998, her design of the Quarryman's Garden won a Gold Medal at The Chelsea Flower Show. In 2002, The Independent on Sunday rated her one of the top ten garden designers in Britain.
She is best known for her natural gardens with a strong environmental message. All of her gardens contain lush, wild plantings and water. She says: 'The air we breathe is purified and regenerated for us by green plants. Water is the source of life on the planet and I believe the sight and sound of water is a soothing influence on the stressful lives we lead today.'
She has brought together a team of the most talented artists in their respective fields to help her create this garden. Everyone working on the garden shares a love of the environment, a sense of humour and an excitement about making this wonderful project a reality.
