Robert Mattock
Rose Grower
Born in Oxford in 1952, Robert was educated at Salesian College and Bath University where he studied horticulture. He is the sixth generation of rose growers in the Mattock family.
When not involved with growing specimen and exhibition roses Robert is a lover of country sports. He is a keen gun, flyfisherman and sailor.
The Mattock family won their first Gold Medal for roses in 1876 and in the last 125 years have won hundreds of Gold Awards. Marney first used Mattock roses in her Gold-Medal winning Quarryman's Garden in 1998.
Mattock's method of growing large specimen roses in relatively small containers makes excellent exhibition material where large specimens may be needed in a small planting space. They are the perfect choice for 'The 4head Garden - From Merlin to Medicine', as the space around the tower for large climbers, and on the terraces for Rosa Gallica, is restricted.
